Intent for RE

We are a Church of England and Methodist school and we are committed to the Christian Faith, recognising and valuing the Anglican and Methodist traditions. The Religious Education in our school is in accordance with the beliefs and traditions of the Church of England and Methodist Church as laid down in the Trust Deed. The management of Religious Education is a distinctive role of the governors and Headteacher. Religious Education at St John’s aims to enable all pupils to know about and understand Christianity as a living worldwide faith that influences the lives of people so that they shine the light of Jesus Christ. In order to provide our children with a sense of global stewardship, it is important that we enable pupils to know and understand about other major world religions and world views, their impact on society, culture and the wider world, enabling pupils to express ideas and insights. Therefore, we aim to offer children experiences of a range of faiths through visits and visitors. Through our challenging and creative RE curriculum, we aim to contribute to the development of pupils’ own spiritual/philosophical convictions, exploring and enriching their own beliefs and values so that they will want to make a difference in the local and wider communities.
