The School Week at Brinscall St John’s CE/Methodist Primary School

The Department for Education have published minimum expectations of the length of the school week for Primary Schools.  From September 2023, there is a minimum expectation of a compulsory school week.  In September 2022 we increased our junior class hours to meet these expectations and from September 2023, will be increasing the infant class hours to ensure that our compulsory school day for each child is at least 32.5 hours per week.

The 32.5 hour minimum expectation includes the time in each day from the official start of the school day (i.e. morning registration) to the official end to the compulsory school day (i.e. official home time). The 32.5 hour minimum includes breaks and lunch times as well as teaching time and any extra-curricular activities that all pupils are expected to attend. It does not include optional before or after school provision.  Although school doors are open from 8:45 to facilitate ease for parking/dropping off, our school registers are taken at 8:55 am (in class).

From September 2023 our compulsory school day for Junior Classes (Year 3-6) is:

Monday: 8:55 am until 3:25 pm (1 hour for lunch between 12 noon and 1pm);

Tuesday: 8:55 am until 3:25 pm (1 hour for lunch between 12 noon and 1pm);

Wednesday: 8:55 am until 3:25 pm (1 hour for lunch between 12 noon and 1pm);

Thursday: 8:55 am until 3:25 pm (1 hour for lunch between 12 noon and 1pm);

Frida: 8:55 am until 3:25 pm (1 hour for lunch between 12 noon and 1pm).

This totals 32.5 hours per week.

From September 2023 our compulsory school day for Infant Classes (Reception to Year 2) is:

Monday: 8:50 am until 3:20 pm (1 hour for lunch between 12 noon and 1pm);

Tuesday: 8:50 am until 3:20 pm (1 hour for lunch between 12 noon and 1pm);

Wednesday: 8:50 am until 3:20 pm (1 hour for lunch between 12 noon and 1pm);

Thursday: 8:50 am until 3:20 pm (1 hour for lunch between 12 noon and 1pm);

Frida: 8:50 am until 3:20 pm (1 hour for lunch between 12 noon and 1pm).

This totals 32.5 hours per week.
