Key InformationPE & Sports Premium
Text
At Brinscall St John’s we have always placed a high importance on our PE and sport provision and have enthusiastic staff, coaches and volunteers who deliver high quality teaching of PE during curriculum time as well as providing a wide range of opportunities for children to enjoy PE and Sport through extracurricular clubs. We endeavour to give our children opportunities to experience different sporting challenges as they move through the school, and to develop their talents in appropriate competitive formats.
We are thrilled to announce that our school has achieved the Platinum School Games Mark! This is the highest accolade awarded through the School Games program, recognising schools that demonstrate outstanding commitment to physical activity, competitive sports, and fostering a healthy, active lifestyle among students. Achieving platinum status reflects years of consistent excellence in promoting sport participation and inclusivity across the school community.
Impact of the funding on pupils’ PE and sport participation and attainment
The PE and Sport Premium has had a positive impact on the quality, range and accessibility of PE and sport across school. Investment in high-quality CPD has increased staff confidence, knowledge and skills in delivering PE, helping to improve the quality and consistency of teaching across year groups.
Funding has enabled pupils to access a broader range of sporting opportunities beyond the core PE curriculum, including festivals, competitions and extracurricular activities. Our involvement with the School Games network has provided children with opportunities to represent the school, experience competitive sport and participate in activities alongside pupils from other schools. These experiences have helped to develop pupils’ confidence, teamwork, resilience and enjoyment of physical activity.
Investment in equipment and resources has supported effective curriculum delivery and enabled pupils to be more active during lessons and sporting activities. A wider range of opportunities has also helped us to encourage children to discover activities they enjoy and develop positive attitudes towards physical activity.
Swimming attainment remains particularly strong. By the end of Year 6, 100% of pupils were able to swim competently, confidently and proficiently over 25 metres, use a range of strokes effectively and perform safe self-rescue.
Overall, the funding has supported our aim of ensuring that PE and sport have a high profile within school, with pupils having regular opportunities to be active, develop their physical skills, participate in competition and experience the wider personal and social benefits of sport.
How we will make sure these improvements are sustainable
Sustainability is central to our use of the PE and Sport Premium. A significant proportion of funding has been invested in developing the knowledge, confidence and skills of our own staff rather than relying solely on external delivery. This ensures that improvements in the quality of PE teaching remain within school and continue to benefit future cohorts of pupils.
Our PE subject leader will continue to monitor the quality of PE provision, support colleagues and identify areas for further development. Staff will be encouraged to share effective practice and make use of the knowledge and skills gained through professional development so that expertise is embedded across the school.
We will continue to build PE, physical activity and school sport into our wider curriculum and annual school provision. Established links with the School Games network and local sporting partners will be maintained wherever possible, enabling pupils to continue accessing festivals, competitions and opportunities to represent the school.
Equipment purchased through the funding will continue to be used across year groups and will be maintained and replenished as part of ongoing curriculum planning. Extracurricular provision will be reviewed regularly to ensure that opportunities reflect pupils’ interests and encourage participation from a broad range of children.
Participation, competition and pupil voice will continue to be monitored so that we can identify groups who may be less active or under-represented and respond appropriately. Future funding will be targeted according to identified need rather than simply repeating previous spending.
Through staff development, strong subject leadership, established partnerships, appropriate resources and regular monitoring, improvements made through the PE and Sport Premium will become embedded within our long-term PE and physical activity provision rather than being dependent upon the funding alone.
