Welcome to PE at Brinscall St John's
Here at Brinscall St John's we are strong advocates for the benefits that PE, sport and physical activity bring to children's lives! In line with the Department for Education we aim to provide a minimum of 2 hours high quality PE a week with equal opportunities for all to participate in a range of sports. Children should be active for at least 30 minutes per day throughout the school day and we aim to offer this to our children in many different ways, through PE, lunch times, break times, active lessons and extra-curricular/after school clubs.

Intent
At Brinscall St John’s, we understand that effective physical education inspires all pupils to excel in all physically demanding activities and competitive sport. We aim to engage, motivate and inspire children to develop a love of physical exercise and games. Our high quality curriculum embeds values, develops vital life skills, provides opportunities for children to improve in different physical activities and sports and educates them on how to keep physically healthy. It is our intention that the enjoyment, confidence and knowledge gained here will develop their character and enable children to maintain an active lifestyle for an entire lifetime. We understand the benefits of a strong PE curriculum and extra-curricular activity on raising children's aspirations and self-esteem. -
Implementation
We follow the Lancashire Scheme of Work for PE and supplement teaching with outside specialist coaches such as Chorley School Sports Partnership. Learning has been carefully considered, mapped out and sequenced through each Key Stage in order to ensure coverage of skills and clear progression. All children are taught fundamental skills such as throwing, catching, balance, co-ordination and jumping in each topic and are then linked to a sport. Pupils learn a range of, and take part in, different sports and activities throughout their school journey. This increases their knowledge and understanding on rules and tactics involved in each game. Physical activities include dance, games, gymnastics, swimming and water safety, athletics and outdoor adventure activities. -
Spirituality
During the range of activities that pupils participate in they develop a sense of enjoyment and fascination in learning about themselves, others and the world around them. They are consistently encouraged to use their imagination and creativity in their learning and showcase a willingness to reflect on their experiences.
