At Brinscall St John’s, we are proud of our Christian foundation and of the way our faith shapes who we are as a school family. Our Christian vision, ‘Shine with the light of Jesus’, is at the heart of school life and guides the relationships we build, the choices we make and the way we care for one another.
We want every child and adult in our school family to know that they are valued, loved and able to flourish. Inspired by the example of Jesus, we encourage everyone to recognise their own unique gifts, to let their light shine and to use that light to make a positive difference to others and to the world around them.
Our six core Christian values are:
Kindness • Respect • Resilience • Courage • Friendship • Forgiveness
These values provide a shared language for our whole school community and help us to understand what it means to live out our Christian vision each day. They are not simply words that we display; we want them to be seen and felt in our classrooms, our playground, our worship, our relationships and in the way we serve our wider community.
Through Kindness, we encourage one another to notice others, show compassion and choose actions that make a difference.
Through Respect, we recognise the value and dignity of every person, treating others as we would wish to be treated ourselves.
Through Resilience, we learn to persevere when things are difficult, to learn from our mistakes and to keep going with hope and determination.
Through Courage, we encourage everyone to be brave, to stand up for what is right, to try new things and to have confidence in who they are.
Through Friendship, we celebrate belonging, supporting one another and building relationships founded on trust, care and love.
Through Forgiveness, we recognise that everyone makes mistakes. Following the example of Jesus, we learn to forgive, seek forgiveness and give ourselves and others the opportunity to begin again.
Our Christian vision and values are woven throughout school life. Through daily collective worship, our curriculum, opportunities for prayer and reflection, our relationships and our work within the wider community, children are encouraged to explore what our values mean and, most importantly, how they can live them out.
We are proud to be a Church of England and Methodist school and to share the teachings and values of the Christian faith. At the same time, we warmly welcome children and families of all faiths and none. We encourage our children to develop an understanding of Christianity alongside a genuine respect for different faiths, beliefs, cultures and ways of life.
We also prepare our children for life in modern Britain by promoting the fundamental British Values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect and tolerance. These sit naturally alongside our Christian values and our commitment to helping children become thoughtful, compassionate and responsible members of their communities.
At Brinscall St John’s, we want our children to achieve academically, but our hopes for them reach much further. We want them to grow into confident, compassionate and courageous young people who understand their worth, recognise the worth of others and know that they have the ability to make a difference.
Together, as one school family, we encourage each other to flourish, to live out our values and to ‘Shine with the light of Jesus’ wherever we go.
